This is somewhere I have been, and more than once. I have a tendency to work way too hard, and in doing so, put myself last. What I am learning though, is to recognise those telltale signs that start to creep in, and the more aware I become, the sooner I can stop myself before things get way too crazy.
If you're experiencing these things, you need to have a serious conversation with yourself:
You feel exhausted, all the time. Even when you wake up, you feel like you could sleep for weeks.
2. A Lack of Motivation
You find that your business that you once loved no longer has the appeal that it did.
3. Everything Feels Too Hard
Even keeping up to date with household chores feels like it is too much.
4. You Feel As Though One More Thing Will Break You
You feel like you have no band width left, for anything. You have thoughts of "If one more thing goes wrong, I'll be tipped over the edge."
Being able to concentrate becomes difficult when you're heading towards burnout. You just don't seem to be able to focus like you could, and if you're honest, you don't really want to.
6. Stop Caring
At this point you really don't care one way or the other if your business succeeds or fails. And you don't you don't really care if anything else in your life works either.
7. Self Care
You stop taking care of yourself. You have forgotten how to do it even. Even things you once loved to do have slipped from your consciousness.
Every waking moment is spent thinking about work or actually doing the work. You really are obsessed with it and cannot get yourself to focus on anything else.
Check in with yourself to see how you feel having read through these eight points.
Maybe it's time to ask yourself a few questions:
- Am I feeling exhausted but pushing through anyway?
- Do I never switch off from work?
- Is success more important right now than taking time out?
- Do I feel overwhelmed?
- Do my shoulders feels tense?
- Am I finding that I'm irritable with others?
There might be other things you notice about how you feel when you are over-worked. The signs and symptoms are many and vary for us all, but if we look closely, they will be there.
If you do think you're beginning to suffer from stress or even burn-out, make sure you STOP and do what you need to do for you, before it's too late. For some, there are very serious health consequences, some life-altering or fatal. Take yourself off to your Dr or health professional to get some help.
Get online and do some research about how you can heal from burn out and stress. There is a lot of good information out there, find it, read it - act on it!
Please take care of yourself.
Until next time,
